Channel Topics and Actions   The next step is to learn how to perform an action. Actions can be performed at any time whether you have operator status or not. When you make an action, it will send a message similar to the following to the channel:    And on the screen will appear:   Homer automatically inserts your nickname before all text. You will type your message in mind that your nickname will be the first word and that whatever you type into the text window will follow. After you type the text, click the ‘Action’ button. (SHORTCUT: If you like command keys instead of clicking, you can enter your text, and then hit Command-Return to send a action.) ======== To set the topic for a channel, simply click on the Topic button located to the right of the operator buttons. If the channel is set to ‘mode +t’ (is your t switch in the upward position?) and you do not have operator status, you won’t be able to set the topic. Your topic button will not be available if you are unable to set the topic. In the example below the topic is locked, but I have Operator Status. Topics are merely a way of telling other users what the topic of discussion is, and in more cases than not, it merely means nothing.   After you click on the topic button, the following dialogue will be presented to you. Simply type in the information you want and click on the 'okay' button.   And on the channel (which is barnyards in this example), after I clicked the 'okay' button below, the Topic appears as follows:
